Flight Departures at Stuttgart Airport
Stuttgart Airport in Germany handles some 10.9 million passengers every year. With more than 400 take-offs and landings and some 100 domestic and international destinations to choose from, Stuttgart Airport serves a large residential area in the city and surrounding suburbs, with passengers often travelling long distances from different regions within the federal state of Baden Württemberg to avail themselves of the cheap flights and excellent services that the airport has to offer.
The airport has four passenger terminals, but only three handle departures as well as arrivals. Terminal 2 only handles departures. Departures at Stuttgart Airport will use the particular terminal that has been assigned to the airline they travel with.
Stuttgart is situated in a valley in the federal state of Baden Württemberg, one of the richest federal states in Germany. Surrounded by vineyards and sunny hills, Stuttgart is a vibrant, modern city that has retained some of its wonderful heritage – the royal palaces buildings and parks are located right at the heart of the city, together with the much loved Wilhelma Zoo, one of Europe’s largest zoos and botanical gardens. Departing passengers have often visited Stuttgart in order to participate in one of the many Trade Fairs and shows that take place at the Messe (Trade Fair building), a building that is in close proximity to the airport.
Within the four terminal buildings Stuttgart Airport departures will find cash machines, a first aid center, toilet and baby changing facilities, a large variety of shops and more than 20 cafes, bars and restaurants offering snacks, meals and refreshments. Passengers with car rental returns should head for Terminal 3, Level 2, where the car rental stations of Avis, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt can be found.
Departures at Stuttgart Airport can travel to the airport cheaply and quickly by train, as the metro station (S-Bahn) is on the lower ground level of the airport. Here S-Bahn trains arrive every few minutes from stations in the leafy suburbs and from the city center.
City express buses leave for Stuttgart Airport at regular intervals from city center locations and from the bus stop opposite the main train station (Hauptbahnhof). Here passengers arriving in Stuttgart with connecting long distance Eurolines coach travel can pick up their bus link to the airport. The long distance coach station is located right behind the main train station.
Most visitors are likely to be staying in one of the many city center hotels. Stuttgart Airport departures looking for taxi services on the day of their departure should either ask at their hotel reception or telephone the central reservation desk.
