Buses from Stuttgart Airport with Bus Routes and Times
Stuttgart Airport buses leave from outside the four passenger terminals and link the city as well as the suburbs with the airport. The bus stops are on the same level as the arrivals areas and passengers looking for onward travel by bus should follow the signposting through the main exits.
Passengers who know that they are going to do more than one bus journey on the same day should ask the driver of the bus for a day ticket, as this is the cheapest way of getting around the city. The ticket is valid for a 24 hour period and makes travelling around Stuttgart far more convenient, as one can hop off and on at leisure without having to worry about change or knowing which stop to ask for.
The final destination of Stuttgart Airport buses is clearly shown at the front of the bus. Express buses link the airport with the city. Express buses X3 travel via the villages of Griebel, Ofterdingen, Rommelsbach and Reutlingen to Pfullingen, while the bus service 122 travels via Pfennigen, Scharnhausen to the popular tourist destination of Esslingen, just a short drive outside of Stuttgart center. Stuttgart Airport bus service 36 travels between the airport and the village of Neuhausen. Bus services 826 and 828 connect the airport, the city of Stuttgart and the university town of Tübingen, which is also a popular tourist destination thanks to its stunning 18th century architecture in the old part of the town.
Shuttle buses from Stuttgart Airport also leave for the various airport hotels and hotels within the city center, as the journey only takes a maximum of 30 minutes. These special shuttle services also leave from just outside the passenger terminals, but these bus stops are especially signposted and usually go to Filderstadt, a suburb of Stuttgart.
Buses from Stuttgart Airport connect airport destinations within the city center, but go also to the bus terminal behind the main train station, where passengers with onward travel arrangements for long distance buses or for journeys by train should leave their airport bus. Within the train station and opposite it there are a number of restaurants, cafes and snack bars, where passengers can enjoy refreshments before boarding their train or long distance coaches. There are also various shops within a short walk of the bus terminal and within the train station.
Just opposite the main train station and the bus terminal in the city center, passengers will find S-Bahn, metro train, connections. The entrance to the underground platforms of the metro trains is just opposite the main train station and provides a fast and efficient way of travelling at peak times, when road traffic can be heavy and slow moving.
Thanks to the extensive motorway system in Germany, Stuttgart has excellent road connections to the airport, surrounding villages and towns as well as to major cities within Germany. Buses from Stuttgart Airport take the A8 motorway and leave at exit 53 for the city center or the various suburbs. There are also buses that leave the airport for the Messe/Trade Fair exhibition hall that is within close proximity of the airport. Throughout the year important trade shows take place at the Messe building and visitors attending the trade shows or exhibitions can use either the metro train or Stuttgart Airport buses to get to the events.
Bus terminal West lies within a short distance of the airport compound and from there passengers can change over to a variety of bus and metro train connections.
